The Lip Sync Exercise
The Lip Sync Exercise...
Today I had the embarrassing but helpful task of practicing lip syncing for music videos. The process was fun and fairly easy given that everyone worked well together as a group. Throughout the shoot I took on various roles. These included camera operator, dolly operator, singer, floor manager and best-boy. All of these were fairly easy apart from singing and I had no problems generally. However there were some times where I would push the dolly too far and the outside of the set would become in view of the camera.
To prepare for the shoot, there were a series of steps taken. Firstly people took there places in which ever role they were assigned to, followed by focusing the cameras, placing tape marks by the dolly and directing the actors for each scene. When the floor manager was happy that everyone was ready, they would call out "Stand by!". This makes sure everyone is ready, and those on set would return the call by replying "Standing By!". The floor manager would then call for "Playback", playing the song and setting the digital clapper board. The whole song then played out and the cameras were cut at the end.
From this short simple shoot, one thing you quickly learn is that for good progress every person involved in the production has to be on the ball all the time. If one person misses a cue then the rest if the crew is held back.
